Drift Ice Curry with Sea Angel Naan

Many people visit the Eastern Hokkaido in winter to see drift ice. Beneath the ice is home to this weird-looking creature called clione, also known as Sea Angel. It appears in various kinds of souvenirs from candies and snacks to T shirts.

But a famous Indian restaurant in Kitami serves a unique chicken curry and naan combo resembling drift ice and clione, which has been a signature menu of this restaurant for over a decade!

Yes, the curry doesn’t look too appealing to eyes… but it surprisingly tastes good! The ocean blue color is made from plants without any artificial coloring. Indian chefs running this restaurant developed a recipe through trial and error to create beautiful nature of Hokkaido on a plate. Of course they never compromised on the taste either. This curry went viral some years ago and was featured in many TV shows and magazines!

The price is also surprising. This “Okhotsk Drift Ice Curry Set” is only 1,100 yen ($10) including curry, naan, salad and Indian fried bread!

If you don’t care about the shape of naan, then this “Service Set” is even more satisfying for your stomach. It comes with two kinds of curries, naan, tandoori chicken, mini steak, salad and chai tea at 1,200 yen ($11). It’s just wow. Their lunch buffet is also a great deal. Highly recommended!
