Abashiri is a city on the coast of the Okhotsk Sea, offering various tourist attractions ranging from nature reserves to museums. With access to the sea and lakes, Abashiri has beautiful nature as well as fresh seafood. In winter, you can see drift ice (Ryuhyo) filling up the coast.

  • How to Get There

Abashiri is just 30-min drive away from Memambetsu Airport. Public bus stransportation is avaiable from the airport. You can take trains from other cities, such as Sapporo, Asahikawa, and Kushiro to JR Abashiri Station as well.

  • Best time to visit

Summertime between June and September is best to enjoy the nature around Abashiri and Lake Saroma. A popular winter attraction, Drift Ice (Ryuhyo) can be observed in February and March.
