Iconic Hokkaido Photo Spot: Fairy Tale Hill

This hill is called "Meruhen no Oka" (Hill of Märchen, meaning fairy tale) and located on the road R39 between Memambetsu and Abashiri. It is a popular photo spot attracting tourists all year around. That is because the view is photogenic at any time of the day in any season.

This simple yet beautiful scenery represents what many tourists think of about Hokkaido. Enormous farmland under the open sky. I like that the little barn with a red roof on the left hand adds a nice accent to the view. It is also fun to see how the harvest goes in different seasons. This spot is only 10-min drive away from Memambetsu Airport. Make sure to stop by!
